Safari Overview

6 Days
  • Also known as the Whiskey route, Machame is known for being a tough climb which is in stark contrast with the Marangu route which is also referred to as the Coca Cola route. As opposed to the gradual incline and hut accommodations on offer on Marangu Route, the climber on Machame experience steeper trails for long distances while sleeping in tents.
  • A minimum of six days or five nights is required to complete trekking through Machame Route, but seven days or six nights is recommended for better altitude acclimatization scheduling. The journey will start at Machame Gate which is located in the southern base of the mountain characterized by lush, fertile rainforest.
  • The route makes its way toward the Shira Plateau. It circles along the southern circuit midway around the mountain which in turn exposes climbers to captivating vistas from all angles. You’ll approach the summit from the east and then descend down following the Mweka trail.
